Sergio Romero is begging Manchester United to release him of his contract this month in order to earn him a move to the United States, according to reports.
The Argentinian goalkeeper is now the Red Devils’ goalkeeper third-choice shot stopper following Dean Henderson’s return to Old Trafford from a two-year loan spell at Sheffield United.
Romero was close to a deadline day move to Everton but United demanded a fee from the Toffees, who then opted to move for Roma goalkeeper Robin Olsen.

And according to The Sun, the 33-year-old is happy to be let go from his contract without the £1.5million pay-out fee he would be owed in order to secure a move away from Old Trafford.
United’s refusal to sell their third-choice goalkeeper in the window was met with an angry reaction from the player’s wife, Eliana Guercio, who was angry at the way the Red Devils pulled the plug on the Everton deal.
She wrote on Instagram: ‘It is a very sad day because he desired the chance to go to another club.
Romero is reportedly keen to move to the United States and wants to be released on a free
‘He has worked hard every day for this, because he gives his all for United and I think that his chances of playing for United have gone down.
‘This doesn’t sound right to me. It doesn’t appear honest or professional or serious that they have to let him go. I am very sad because of this.’
Furthermore, ESPN have reported that Romero’s team-mates at Manchester United are angry at the club for the way they have treated their third-choice goalkeeper and that he deserves better following five years of service at the club.
Romero’s wife Eliana Guercio has also hit out over United’s treatment of the goalkeeper
Romero has only made seven Premier League appearances for the Red Devils, with his last top-flight appearance coming on the final day of the 2017/18 season in a home tie against Watford.
He did play a key role in United winning the 2017 Europa League title, playing 12 times as Jose Mourinho’s side lifted the trophy against Ajax in the final.
The goalkeeper’s current Manchester United deal ends in the summer of 2021 and the club could cash in on their third-choice option or risk losing him on a free transfer.
Romero’s overall record for Manchester United in all competitions stands at 67 matches, in which he has kept 39 clean sheets and conceded just 27 goals.
