Thiago sends message to Virgil van Dijk after he suffers ACL injury

Virgil van Dijk's Liverpool teammate Thiago Alcantara has sent a message of support after it was revealed the Dutch defender has suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage.

Van Dijk will require surgery on his knee after he was clattered by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the Merseyside Derby on Saturday.

He now looks set for a lengthy spell out of action, and there are even doubts over whether he will be able to return before the end of the season.

There were worries that Thiago may also have suffered an injury issue following a late horror tackle by Richarlison in the match, with the Toffees forward sent off for the challenge.

But fortunately for the Reds it does not seem to be a big problem, and he will likely be fully fit again within a week.

On Monday morning Thiago took to social media to wish Van Dijk well in his recovery, sharing a message sent by the Dutchman along with the caption: "Get well soon, bro," along with a strong arm emoji.

It comes after Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah also gave their support to their teammate.

Henderson said: "The comeback is always stronger than the set back.

"Recover well my brother, we’ll be waiting for you".

And Salah wrote on Twitter : “I wish you a speedy recovery big man."

Meanwhile it appears as though Pickford will not face a retrospective ban for the incident.

The England goalkeeper escaped without a card from the incident but there were some suggestions he could receive a punishment at some point this week.

However, according to The Athletic the fact that VAR did review the incident at the time but deemed it not worthy of a red card means retrospective action is unable to be taken.
