Chelsea have been handed a major injury boost ahead of their Premier League clash with Liverpool on Thursday, with Thiago Silva back in training. The veteran defender has been absent for the Blues’ last six matches after suffering a thigh injury in the 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

However, he was back in full training this week and he could be in contention to face Liverpool.

The 36-year-old had been training on his own as he recovered from the injury but he joined in with the rest of the squad on Tuesday.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s 0-0 draw against Manchester United, manager Thomas Tuchel offered an update on Silva’s fitness.

“He did an individual session today, on the pitch, and it was a big progress and step ahead up front for him so I hope he will join the group next week,” Tuchel said.

Things have clearly gone to plan, with Chelsea’s official Twitter account posting an image of Silva with the caption: “Great to see @TSilva3 back in training!”

Silva also posted two pictures of himself in training with the caption: “Happy to be back and doing what I love!! Let’s go @ChelseaFC”

Tuchel will have a difficult decision to make over whether to start Silva against Liverpool, with Andreas Christensen deputising in the Brazilian’s absence and impressing against United.

“For me personally, I’m playing games back-to-back and I haven’t had that for a while so it’s great for me,” Christensen said.

“We have to chase the top four together. We’re in good form so it’s about going into every game trying not to let that form drop and to keep winning.”

Liverpool have also been handed squad boosts, with Jurgen Klopp revealing that Alisson, Fabinho and Diogo Jota are likely to be in contention.

Alisson was absent from Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United at the weekend after the tragic death of his father.

Fabinho has been out of action for the Reds’ last four games after suffering a muscle injury but he is back in full training.

Jota, meanwhile, has not feature since injuring his knee in a Champions League game against Midtjylland and he missed out on making the match day squad against the Blades after falling ill in the team hotel.

Speaking ahead of the game against Chelsea, Klopp said: “Alisson and Fabinho, I’m pretty sure [will be available].

“With Diogo, he was with us in the hotel, but he got sick overnight and we had to send him home. It depends how quick he will recover, obviously.

“He was in the squad and as I said before, he trained with the team and it all looked really good but unfortunately he got sick overnight. I think he will be available, but I don’t know.”
