Chelsea’s pursuit of Erling Haaland is being cheered on by the son of current Blues defender, Thiago Silva. The Borussia Dortmund striker has become one of the world’s most talked about players after another dominant season in the Bundesliga.

Silva joined Chelsea last summer in the latest instalment of an accomplished career spent with the likes of AC Milan and PSG, not to mention over 100 caps for Brazil.

After a rocky start in blue, he grew to be a steadying presence in Thomas Tuchel’s backline last season as Chelsea romped to Champions League glory.

Although Silva has turned out alongside the likes of Neymar, Ronaldinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic during his glittering career, Haaland seems to be on the mind of his son, Iago.

On the Norwegian’s latest Instagram post, the youngster commented: “Come to Chelsea pls”.

The sentiments of the Chelsea board will essentially be exactly that, although Dortmund appear to be standing firm on their £150million valuation of the star.

Transfer chief Marino Granovskaia reportedly tested their resolve with a player-plus-cash offer involving Tammy Abraham earlier in the window.

Dortmund wouldn’t budge, and the fact that the deal has not progressed since suggests that Chelsea may not be keen to press on with a cash-only deal.

The only incident which may reignite the transfer saga would be BVB lowering their valuation, although that seems unlikely for a number of reasons.

Firstly, being known as a ‘selling club’ certainly has its downfalls, but it has left Dortmund in fantastic financial health, thus putting them under no pressure to part with their star players.

Furthermore, having lost one of their key attackers in Jadon Sancho already this summer, the thought of losing Haaland as well may just be a bridge too far.

The 20-year-old bagged 41 goals in 41 games last campaign, establishing himself as one of the most feared strikers in the world.

Chelsea’s alternative options have been no less ambitious, with Romalu Lukaku and Robert Lewandowski both reportedly on the club’s hit list.

However, with no headway being made on any of those deals, they may have to put faith in the likes of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz to lead the line themselves.

The club are looking to build on the momentum of last season, after a dramatic upturn in results following Tuchel’s January appointment.

If May’s Champions League glory was not enough to convince Haaland to push for a move to Stamford Bridge, the comment left by Silva’s son is unlikely to be enough either. Regardless, he has to be applauded for trying.
