  • Mourinho will have limited funds to buy players during the transfer window
  • But the Tottenham boss will not have to sell key players to help raise funds
  • Spurs increasingly confident of signing Southampton wantaway star Hojbjerg
  • Spurs also keen on Bournemouth keeper Ramsdale challenging Hugo Lloris

Tottenham have told Jose Mourinho his key players will not be sold during the close season despite the Covid financial crisis.

Whilst money is tight at Spurs, chairman Daniel Levy will back his manager with limited funds during the transfer window to strengthen problem areas in his squad ahead of next season.

And the Portuguese’s plans for the 2020/21 campaign have been boosted with the club almost certain not to entertain offers for any key players this summer.

Spurs believe Bournemouth’s Aaron Ramsdale could offer serious competition to Hugo Lloris

Levy has a reputation as one of the fiercest negotiators in football and is hugely reluctant to engage in negotiations for any of his most important players knowing he would likely receive below market offers due to strained financial conditions caused by the coronavirus.

Tottenham may, however, entertain offers for fringe players to raise cash. Tanguy Ndombele, who arrived in a club record £53.8million swoop from Lyon last summer, has fallen out of favour under Mourinho and could be sacrificed.

In terms of incomings, the club are after a goalkeeper to add serious competition to current first-choice Hugo Lloris, who has entered the final 12 months of his deal.

Spurs are increasingly confident of signing Southampton wantaway star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Sportsmail understands Spurs are keen on a move for Bournemouth’s Aaron Ramsdale if the south coast club are relegated, while Watford’s Ben Foster and Fulham’s Marcus Bettinelli are also of interest.

Mourinho also wants a central midfielder, with the club increasingly confident of signing Southampton wantaway star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Everton have already had a £25million offer accepted for Hojbjerg accepted by the Saints, but it is the 24-year-old’s preference to join Spurs.

Intriguingly, the midfielder recently switched representation to Pini Zahavi, who has close links to Tottenham and played a role in taking Mourinho to north London following Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking.

Tottenham are also in the market for a central defender to replace Jan Vertonghen who looks likely to leave when his deal expires on Sunday.

South Korea international Kim Min-jae, who plays for for Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan, is of big interest to Spurs.
