Tottenham look set for a major transfer battle as boss Antonio Conte eyes a duo who are also being tracked by Newcastle and Barcelona. Conte is desperate to upgrade his squad as he seeks to secure a Premier League top four place.

They are well-placed to make a run for a Champions League qualification place, as they sit just one place and one point behind West Ham.

Conte has turned around Tottenham’s form in impressive fashion since replacing Nuno Espirito Santo.

But the Italian has frequently displayed his frustration at the club’s lack of activity in the transfer market.

They are still yet to make a signing nearly three weeks into the winter window, despite the squad clearly being at a level below what is required.

That has led to Conte demanding that club chiefs Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici add to his options this month.

It appears that they are finally listening to the Spurs boss, with the Sun reporting the London club are set to enter into a transfer battle with Barca and Newcastle.

The report states that Spurs are ‘ready to back’ Conte by making a £50million swoop for Diego Carlos and Adama Traore.

They have already seen a £15m offer for Traore rejected by Wolves, but are preparing to improve their offer.

Barcelona are also thought to be tracking the Spanish winger, who has impressed for Wolves since they were promoted back into the Premier League.

The La Liga giants are not the only club who Spurs are fighting though, with fellow top-flight side Newcastle also facing off against Conte’s men.

That fight is over Sevilla defender Diego Carlos, who had looked set to move to St James’ Park.

But Tottenham have now entered the race to sign the Brazilian international, who played for Sevilla on Thursday.

The Magpies have submitted a £30m offer for Carlos, though so far have not been able to convince him to move.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is said to still be hopeful of signing the 28-year-old, though their chances have been hit by a major blow by Tottenham’s interest.

Sevilla are continuing to insist that he will stay in Spain for the rest of the season and he is expected to feature in Saturday’s clash with Celta Vigo.

Despite that though, the Sun claim that Newcastle are ‘hopeful’ there will be a breakthrough in negotiations soon.

But those hopes could be dashed if Tottenham do indeed make a move for the Sevilla star, with Conte keen to upgrade his defensive options.
