Tottenham’s Alli tipped to link up with Gerrard at Rangers in January loan

Dele Alli has been urged to move to Rangers on loan and "win Steven Gerrard the title" by former Liverpool and England midfielder Danny Murphy.

Alli, 24, finds himself firmly out of Jose Mourinho's first-team plans at Tottenham and has been linked with a January exit.

The midfielder has made just three Premier League appearances this season and his last start in the top-flight came in the opening-day defeat to Everton, when he was hooked at half-time.

Paris Saint-Germain and Everton have emerged as potential destinations for the Englishman, but Murphy claims the ideal move for the player would be a six-month loan to Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers.

"I'm not sure Dele would be up for it, but I thought maybe Stevie G at Rangers could persuade him to go there and win him the title," Murphy told talkSPORT .

"He'd play every week, score a lot of goals, get his confidence up and impress [England boss] Gareth Southgate.

"There is an argument to say 'Would that be enough scoring at that level?' Because it is a drop down.

"But I don't know. Maybe playing under Stevie is something that he would enjoy."

Gerrard has led Rangers to a formidable lead over rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership, while the Ibrox club have earned £6million from their progression to the Europa League last 32.

While the manager ruled out a busy January transfer window in terms of incomings, he admitted he could act if he spies "something of interest".

Gerrard said: “Thursday night’s financial gain doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll go into the market for potential signings.

“We’re really happy with the squad at the moment. If something of interest becomes available, we’d obviously discuss it because myself and the board are on the same page.

“But the result on Thursday doesn’t push it in either direction.”
