Tottenham’s Skriniar pursuit could have transfer repercussions for Liverpool

Tottenham's pursuit of Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar could have transfer repercussions for Liverpool.

Jose Mourinho is targeting the centre-back and remains hopeful of landing his signature before the transfer window slams shut in less than a fortnight's time.

Inter and Spurs are believed to still be in talks over a potential deal although the two clubs are believed to be some way apart in their valuations of the 25-year-old.

Skriniar's price tag has been set at around £55million by Inter, but Spurs are thought to only be prepared to pay half that.

Key to Inter's demands is their awareness that they would need to replace Skriniar if the Slovakian moves on to Spurs, which could have a knock-on effect to Liverpool's plans.

Gianluca di Marzio report Inter have identified Schalke's Ozan Kabak as a possible option to fill the void should Skriniar depart before deadline day.

Kabak, 20, had previously been attracting interest from Liverpool, who were told in no uncertain terms the Turkish international was not for sale.

That is not thought to have deterred the Reds from signing the promising talent in the future, though Liverpool's urgency to add a fourth choice centre-back has diminished following Fabinho's impressive display deputising in the role against Chelsea.

Liverpool's lack of available finances also makes a deal difficult at this time, unless they can sell some of their fringe players.

A report from The Athletic though claims Liverpool have already decided not to add any more players to their squad this summer, seemingly leaving the path clear for Inter to land their target should the Serie A giants wish.

Tottenham themselves need to raise their own funds if they are to complete a deal for Skriniar though.

The club are still looking for a buyer for right-back Serge Aurier as AC Milan continue to play hardball over a fee.

Spurs are also targeting Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik who they hope to sign on loan, but Everton have also expressed a interest.
