Liverpool and Arsneal will be vying for the third top spot in the Premie League table as the pair go head-to-head this evening – each with two games and six points under their belts.  As the reigning champions welcome the Gunners to Merseyside this evening, there has already been controversy over the clash – which had to be rescheduled and moved 15 minutes earlier thanks to the Government’s new 10pm curfew rules.

Thiago Alcantara could make his first start for Liverpool tonight, having made his debut as a half-time substitute in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Chelsea last week.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s clash, boss Jurgen Kloop revealed how his new No 6 is shaping up.

He said: “We have a few days to train, so we will see how we set up.

“I have an idea, but why should I make a decision today? But he’s in contention, so let’s see.”

Who will win?

The two teams have netted 162 goals in their previous 56 Premier League clashes – with Liverpool securing 21 wins to the Gunners’ 16 in the clubs’ head-to-head record.

So far this season, Liverpool has scored six goals with 12 shots on target – against Arsenal’s record of five goals and nine on target.

Klopp is confident Liverpool can extend their 100 per cent start to the season but the Reds boss praised Mikel Arteta for giving his new side a much firmer footing since his arrival.

“Mikel Arteta has shown in a pretty short period of time that he seems to be an exceptional football manager. The structure of the team is absolutely exceptional,” Klopp said.

“You can see the balance between defence and offence is really good. There’s good organisation, freedom for the players and he uses the players in the right position.

“Since he’s been there, he’s done a pretty impressive job, changed the whole mood in the club.

“I don’t think a lot of people thought he would have won any competition, but he did that by winning the FA Cup and also the English ‘Super Cup’.”

But what do the experts say? Well, The Pools think Liverpool have this one in the bag it seems, according to the latest odds.

  • Liverpool – 62.5%
  • Draw – 22.2%
  • Arsenal – 21.1%

“Liverpool will be preparing for revenge on their north London visitors. The Red Men missed out on the Community Shield against the Gunners and while it may not be high on anyone’s agenda, the defeat would have left a sour taste in Jurgen Klopp’s mouth.

“He will not want Mikel Arteta to get another victory against him when they travel to Anfield for this Premier League clash. Expect a hard fought match with the likes of Salah, Mane and Firmino getting the better of Aubameyang, Lacazette and Willian.”
