Brazil is widely considered as one of the greatest nations to ever grace the World Cup – and the Selecao have wowed worldwide audiences with the brilliance of Pele, Carlos Alberto, and Ronaldo.
However, while they've conquered the world five times over, their embarrassment at the hands of Germany in 2014 is the lasting modern memory. Germany broke the hearts of the Brazilian nation behind enemy lines at the Maracana.
And eight years after Brazil was dissolved into tears, Daily Star Sport is having a look at what happened to the Brazilian starting side after they crashed out of their home World Cup.

Julio Cesar, who started between the sticks, had an odd build-up to the showpiece – having left QPR on loan after losing his spot to Rob Green. And it didn't get much better after shipping seven, moving to Portugal before hanging up his boots at Flamengo in 2018.
Luiz Felipe Scolari opted for a back four of Maicon, David Luiz, Dante, and Marcelo. David Luiz is back in Brazil with Flamengo, while Dante never played again for the Selecao after the embarrassment, and he now turns out regularly for Nice.
Marcelo is stuck in the footballing wilderness at Olympiacos – where he has been frozen out of the team. While Maicon retired in 2021, having played his final season in the top tier of San Marino football.

Brazil's midfield three was a tad more inspiring: Luiz Gustavo, Fernandinho, and Oscar. Gustavo, 35, who was a regular at Bayern Munich, is still playing – and he's currently in the Middle East with Al Nassr FC.
Fernandinho is perhaps the most well-known player on the list, and he was a regular at Manchester City until the summer. He has since moved back to Brazil, where he featured in the Copa Libertadores final last month for Athletico Paranaense.
Oscar had the world at his feet in 2014, but despite being tipped for the top he never made a splash. Instead, the forgotten star is one of the world's top-paid players in China.
Brazil has a long legacy of great attacking talent: unfortunately, Bernard, Hulk, and Fred won't be joining that list anytime soon. Bernard rocked up at Goodison Park a couple of years after the defeat, but after failing to make the grade he left in 2021; he currently plays for Panathinaikos.
Fred was slammed for his poor performances at the 2014 World Cup, and he announced his international retirement after the clash. He hung up his boots over the summer after a spell with Brazilian side Fluminense.
The biggest name of the front three was Hulk – who was renowned for his hammer of a left foot. He is now back in Brazil turning out regularly for Atletico Mineiro after a spell in China.
