A tackle being dubbed the 'worst of 2021' was produced by a Brazilian defender in the country's second division on Friday night when he caught an opponent in the face with his boot.
The incident occurred midway through the opening 45 minutes of the Brazilian Serie B match between Botafogo and Clube de Regatas Brasil (CRB).
22-year-old defender Caetano was shown a straight red card by the referee after he stopped Botafogo forward Rafael Navarro from intercepting the ball with a reckless head-height challenge.
CRB went on to miss their dismissed defender as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against their opponents.
Caetano, who is on loan from Corinthians, caught Navarro flush in the face with his boots as he attempted to stop him from going through clear on goal.
The challenge initially appeared to have cause a serious injury for Navarro as he laid out on the pitch but he soon got up, showing a nasty cut on his nose as a result of the challenge.
Referee Antonio Dib Moraes de Sousa was left in no doubt as to what action to take as he quickly brandished a red card before Caetano could even get to his feet.

The most shocking part of the incident was that some of his CRB teammates attempted to argue with the referee's decision to send him off.
The dismissal was the second red card of Caetano's career and the first he has received since 2019, when he was on loan at Oeste FC-SP.
Navarro recovered quickly from the horror challenge and later set up the opening goal for the hosts as they went on to defeat CRB 2-0 and remain in second place in the Brazilian Serie B.
