Blow to Kim Waugh stable – Favourite scratched from Provincial Championships Final

The hot favourite Great News has been scratched from the rich $500,000 Provincial Championships Final (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

The Kim Waugh-trained four-year-old was withdrawn from the race at 9.09am with a vet certificate after sustaining “a crack to the off fore hoof, with associated bruising and a pulse in the same foot”.

Prior to the scratching Great News dominated betting markets at $2.70.

The new favourite is Newcastle galloper Pandano from the Paul Perry yard at $3 ahead of the Kris Lees’ duo Cristal Breeze at $7.50 and Animate at $9.

The scratching of Great News secured a run for the first emergency, the Jeff Englebrecht-trained High Court which is a $101 chance.
