Golden Slipper betting: Profiteer carrying triple the amount of money than Stay Inside

Punters are rallying behind Victorian raider Profiteer to win the Golden Slipper with the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr-trained colt smashed into outright favouritism since Tuesday’s barrier draw.

Profiteer was rated a $4.50 chance with after the barriers were drawn when he snared gate five for the $3.5 million sprint.

A $20,000 bet was quickly taken by the bookmaker before he was shortened into a $4 equal favourite alongside main rival Stay Inside.

But since that hefty sum was taken, the money has continued to pour in for Profiteer.

By early on Wednesday morning Profiteer was a clear $3.50 favourite to provide jockey Hugh Bowman with consecutive Slippers with Stay Inside drifting out to $5.

“Since that $20,000 bet went on yesterday, the money has continued to come for Profiteer,” TAB media manager Andrew Georgiou said.

“Even without that bet of $20,000, Profiteer has been three times more popular than Stay Inside since the draw and clearly holds more than any other runner.”

Profiteer is looking to bounce back from a narrow defeat in the Group 2 Todman Stakes, where he was beaten by Godolphin’s Anamoe.

The James Cummings-trained Anamoe has been a big drifter from $9 out to $15 since drawing the car park in barrier 16.

It leaves just three horses in single digits in the betting with John Sargent’s Four Moves Ahead also attracting plenty of interest from punters.

Four Moves Ahead has been shortened from $9 into $7 after learning his gate and punters believe he has the edge on one of his main rivals in the biggest two-year-old event in racing.

“Four Moves Ahead is holding more money than Stay Inside since yesterday‘s draw,” Georgiou said.

“There‘s been a big move since the barriers were drawn.”

Four Moves Ahead jumps from barrier 10 with Nash Rawiller on-board.

Chris Waller-trained trio Home Affairs ($15 to $13), O’President ($17 to $15) and Shaquero ($34 to $26) has received some support while Astorius ($8 to $11), Ingratiating ($15 to $17) and Kalashnikov ($26 to $34) are among the drifters.
