Horse racing tips: Ballarat best bets, preview

Herald Sun form analyst Brad Waters runs the rule over Wednesday’s card at Ballarat.

FRANCINE (Race 2 No. 9 – $6.50)

Francine resumes for the Aaron Purcell stable at Ballarat on Wednesday and finds herself in a winnable race. The filly was beaten less than a length on debut at Warrnambool last time in and should go close again fresh.

MAGNOLIA ROSE (Race 1 No. 10 – $7.50)

The three-year-old filly has been competitive in difficult maidens to start her autumn campaign and will only be better for those runs. The Kermadec filly steps up to 1600m for this, which should suit perfectly.

A PINCH OF LUCK (Race 4 No. 12 – $9)

The filly was freshened after a narrow defeat at Cranbourne last time out but she should be around the mark here. She’s back to 1200m for this but expect her to be charging late.

EXCUSES EXCUSES (Race 6 No. 2 – $9.50)

Happy to forgive Excuses Excuses for his last-start effort at Bendigo where he found himself in inferior ground. He was a strong winner in the wet at Ballarat two runs back and could bounce back to winning form.

ANGEL ROCK (Race 7 No. 10 – $14)

The developing mare has started to put it all together judging by her good second at Pakenham before her strong win at Cranbourne last start. She has a great record at 1600m and she’s over the odds.

Daniel Moor has a big day ahead at Ballarat with rides in six of the seven races at the meeting, including a couple of chances that could show up at odds.

ESCENTUAL (Race 1 No. 8 – $18), FRANCINE (Race 2 No. 9 – $6.50), SCOTTISH ROGUE (Race 4 No. 6 – $18), BOSSY CHLOE (Race 5 No. 5 – $6), CRAFTY TYCOON (Race 6 No. 6 – $15) or SUMMAROCA (Race 6 No. 15 – $16), BENEFACTRESS (Race 7

No. 3 – $31).

Racing heads up north on Thursday for a day meeting at Wangaratta before the Pakenham night series switches to the Synthetic track. Geelong races during the day on Friday before the Cranbourne night meeting. Sandown hosts a Saturday meeting this week while Horsham will hold the support meeting.
