Most beautiful jockey fighting for life as fall left her needing brain surgery

Australian jockey Leah Kilner is now fighting for her life after a horrendous fall at Grafton racecourse left her needing brain surgery.

Kilner suffered the devastating injury after a mid-race incident saw her fall from Stella’s Turn. The meeting was immediately abandoned and Kilner was airlifted to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, where she was reported to be drifting in and out of consciousness at the time.

Kilner has regularly been dubbed the “most beautiful” jockey in horse racing, winning over fans and racing enthusiasts with her charming charisma and fantastic racing ability. However, the racing world will all be praying for Kilner, after her trainer Rob Heathcote revealed she is now undergoing life-saving brain surgery.

"It has been a very bad day,” Heathcote said in an update for her fans and followers. "Leah had a bad fall when the two-year-old she was riding collapsed. She struck the ground hard with her head.

"She was immediately attended to by the medical team and airlifted to the specialist brain trauma unit at hospital. She is a very sick young girl and she is in a coma since the fall.

"She is currently, as at 6pm Sunday (Australia time) having surgery to release the pressure on her brain.” Kilner has been heralded as one of the best up and coming jockeys in Australia, having rode more than 200 winners.

As well as narrowly missing out on the all-time record of 54 victories in the 2021-22 season, Kilner is believed to have earned around £3million from her excellent performances on the track. But the racing community, the sporting world and anybody aware of this tragic story will all be hoping she can overcome her devastating fall at Grafton.

"It is a very grave situation and we should all pray for her to come through this,” Heathcote added. “Leah is the most beautiful young lady I have met in racing so we need to pray for her recovery.

“I just wanted you all to know what's happening as you love her as much as we do."
