WA jockey Chris Parnham will be out to again succeed where many others have failed in Friday night’s Group 1 William Reid Stakes at The Valley.
Parnham steered the much-maligned Kementari to his first win in 33 months in the Group 3 Scahill Stakes in Perth last December.
Some of the biggest names in racing – McDonald, Bowman, Pike, and Williams – couldn’t get Kementari over the line in races in three states before Parnham piloted him to victory.
“I think it was probably a case of him dropping back in grade a little bit,” Parnham said.
“He’d raced at the top level for a long time then dropped back to a Group 3.
“I don’t think I did too much special on him and if I did anything special on him, I don’t know what it was, but we got the money that day.”
Parnham will make a cross-country dash solely to ride the Godolphin galloper in the $500,000 William Reid Stakes.
“I actually asked them (Godolphin) if I could come over,” Parnham said.
“If we get the luck in running, he can definitely play a part in it.”

Parnham took two rides at Pinjarra on Thursday before flying to Melbourne early on Friday morning Perth time.
But the jockey can’t afford anything to go wrong on his trip home to Perth on Saturday morning as he has five rides at Ascot in the afternoon.
“I get on a plane at 9:30am and with the time difference, I land at 10:30am in Perth but my first ride is just after 12 (noon),” Parnham said.
“So the plane wouldn’t want to be delayed otherwise I could miss my first ride.”
Parnham will ride against his brother Brad in the William Reid Stakes. Brad Parnham will ride Newmarket Handicap runner-up Indian Pacific for the jockeys’ father Neville at The Valley.
Indian Pacific drew poorly in barrier 14 while Kementari will jump from barrier nine.
“It’s not an ideal gate for him but if I can’t win it, I’d like to see Bradley win it,” Chris said.
