Newcastle offer to Mauricio Pochettino CONFIRMED as £300m takeover nears completion

Mauricio Pochettino has been offered a contract by Newcastle ahead of the £300million takeover. That is according to Tottenham legend Ossie Ardiles who confirmed that Pochettino has held talks with the club who made him “a good offer”.

The former Tottenham boss has been out of a job ever since getting sacked by the north Londoners in November following a string of poor results even though he led them to the Champions League final last season.

Now the Argentine is the favourite to take over at Newcastle ahead of the imminent takeover led by Amanda Staveley and consisting of Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, PCP Capital Partners and the Rueben Brothers.

The switch may be finalised by next week and the 48-year-old could soon take over if the new owners decide against working with current manager Steve Bruce.

Ardiles told the Daily Mirror: “Mauricio is fine in England.

“He is linked with Newcastle United and when he spoke directly to that club there were many first-rate people involved who made him a good offer.

“Mauricio had a [contractual] relationship with Tottenham, but last Tuesday his situation was unlocked and he is free to coach.

“In this way, he will hear offers again, but Newcastle is a firm possibility to work again.

“For now Pochettino is not going to manage in Argentina. He had an approach, there was talk at the time of the national team, but he was very happy at Tottenham.

“I don’t see it happening now. Maybe later in his career, yes, but not now. I would recommend Mauricio for any job in the world. He is an excellent person.”

Pochettino’s work at Tottenham has been recognised worldwide as he took the club to the next level even though he didn’t manage to win any silverware.

The former Southampton boss was also instrumental in the development of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Harry Winks and more.

Newcastle told why Mauricio Pochettino would turn down approach to replace Steve Bruce

Newcastle have been linked with some of the biggest names in football to become the new manager once their takeover is completed, but former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips doesn’t think Mauricio Pochettino take the job. Newcastle are set to become the richest club in England once the Saudi Arabian consortium complete their £300m takeover.

Reports have suggested the deal could be approved over the next two weeks, which would see the mega-rich Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman take the reigns of the club.

There have been several teams in the past who have gained billionaire owners and gone on to achieve great success.

Chelsea were bought by Roman Abramovich back in 2004 and has not been afraid to splash the cash in competing with some of Europe’s elite to sign the best players.

More recently, Manchester City have dominated world football ever since having the money from Sheikh Mansour available to them.

Now Newcastle fans have begun dreaming of what they’re side could become with new mega-rich owners.

While players such as Kalidou Koulibaly and Philippe Coutinho have been touted as possible acquisitions on the field, there’s also been plenty of discussion on a potential replacement for Steve Bruce.

The 59-year-old has impressed in his debut campaign at St James’ Park, but that hasn’t stopped the rumours of a potential successor coming in straight away.

Pochettino, who was sacked by Tottenham in November, has been the most prominent name linked with the job at Newcastle.

But Phillips has outlined why he doubts Pochettino would be interested in taking charge at Newcastle now.

“If you throw enough money at someone they find it hard to turn down,” he told Football Insider.

“There is also the size of the club and the supporters.

“Pochettino struggled to win something at Tottenham and Newcastle have not won something in a long, long, long time. I do not think that would be the right fit for him.

“I imagine he will want to go somewhere where he can win trophies.

“It is a three-year project and Pochettino already had that at Tottenham.

“He will want to go to a club where he is challenging straight away.”
