  • Liverpool are expected to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig this summer
  • Arsenal and Chelsea are ready to battle for Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng

Man Utd star Marcus Rashford in contact with Jadon Sancho

Manchester United transfer target Jadon Sancho is in regular contact with Marcus Rashford ahead of a possible switch to Old Trafford this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to add the England winger to his ranks as he looks to further improve his squad.

And BILD Head of Football Christian Falk has revealed Liverpool have never had any interest in the 20-year-old clearing the way for United to get a deal done.

The Red Devils have been chasing Sancho for months and have reportedly reserved the No. 7 shirt for the young star.

He told lfctransferroom: “So far we have no sign that Liverpool has ever had interest in Jadon Sancho, and if Jurgen Klopp really wanted to sign him, Dortmund would have already known that – Klopp would never try and bring a player from BVB without first contacting the German side.

“Manchester United has been chasing him for months.

“He is good friends with Rashford and they keep close contact with one another.”

Timo Werner to Liverpool ‘happening’

Liverpool have been linked with a move for impressive RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner this summer. The Reds are looking to add another strong link to their attacking line-up of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Werner has been in stunning form this season, netting 27 goals and providing 12 assists in all competitions.

  • Chelsea and Newcastle receive Philippe Coutinho transfer boost

And BILD Head of Football Christian Falk believes Werner moving to Liverpool will happen this summer.

He told lfctransferroom: “According to our information, the clause is 55 million as a base value and can grow to 60 million if RB Leipzig makes it into the Champions League.

“And yes, I think this transfer is happening. Interestingly, Werner now has a new Social Media and Marketing agency.

“The boss of this agency is also Jurgen Klopp’s manager.

“Werner is also talking a lot about Liverpool in the public eye now too…”

  • Liverpool transfer masterplan to harvest £40m has fallen foul

Chelsea and Arsenal battle for Jerome Boateng

Chelsea and Arsenal are set to go head-to-head in an effort to sign Jerome Boateng this summer.

The Bayern Munich defender is entering the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena and could be ready for a move to pastures new.

Boateng has struggled for game time with the Bavarian giants in recent seasons, although he has enjoyed something of a resurgence this term under Hansi Flick.

The 31-year-old has notched up 25 appearances across all competitions for Bayern, earning admiring glances from around Europe.

There has been speculation over whether Boateng would be offered a new deal to stay in Germany but the return from injury of Niklas Sule appears to be hastening the World Cup winner’s exit.

And now Fussball Transfers have confirmed that both Chelsea and Arsenal have expressed interest in the centre-back ahead of the summer window, while Hertha Berlin are also keen.

Real want Haaland and Mbappe to join Eden Hazard in 2021

Real Madrid want Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe to join Eden Hazard in 2021 and form ‘new dream attacking trio’ at the Bernabeu

  • Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo dominated at Real Madrid
  • Club have struggled to replicate same success since Ronaldo’s departure
  • They are planning to form the new trio of attacking talent at the Bernabeu
  • Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland are both targets and could join club in 2021

Real Madrid are plotting moves for Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe to form ‘the new dream attacking trio of the Bernabeu’ alongside Eden Hazard in 2021.

Zinedine Zidane’s side are chasing the top talent in Europe in a bid to construct the most dangerous strikeforce in the game.

According to AS, if Real’s expectations are met, then both the PSG and Borussia Dortmund stars could arrive next summer.

AS report that Real Madrid want the ‘Trident of the new Bernabeu’ with two new signings

Kylian Mbappe’s PSG deal expires in 2022 so the French club may be tempted by an offer

One piece of the puzzle was already added when Hazard joined from Chelsea on a five-year deal for £80million last year.

Mbappe is already established as one of the most deadly forwards in football and Haaland has been a revelation since joining Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg in January.

The Spanish publication report that Zinedine Zidane would deploy Mbappe on the right, Hazard on the left and Haaland playing through the middle.

Mbappe’s PSG contract expires in the summer of 2022 so PSG might be tempted to cash in next summer if he refuses to sign fresh terms.

Haaland has a release clause of £65m in his Dortmund contract, which now looks a snip given the way he’s started in the Bundesliga, scoring in the return to action against Schalke on Saturday to make it 12 goals in 13 games for the club.

Real have been searching for the perfect combination in the attacking third since Cristiano Ronaldo departed for Juventus.

He formed a lethal triumvirate with Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale and they fired Real to three Champions League victories in succession between 2015-18.

Eden Hazard would play on the left flank with Haaland in the middle and Mbappe on the right

Mbappe, Haaland and Hazard would blend a mixture of youth and experience, though members of Real’s current squad could yet stake a claim for a role.

Brazilian duo Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo are both emerging talents but yet to fully establish themselves and Hazard himself still has something to prove in the Spanish capital after a slow start at the club.

Real will inevitably face competition for their transfer targets with Mbappe and Haaland on the radar of every top side in Europe.

And much will depend on the transfer landscape after the coronavirus crisis given the damaging financial impact across the continent.

Tottenham star Dele Alli was held at knifepoint in robbery at London home

The Tottenham star suffered minor facial injuries after we was punched in the face when two males broke in through a back entrance to steal jewellery including a number of expensive watches. Alli, 24, is in lockdown with his girlfriend Ruby Mae and brother Harry Hickford and his partner, in addition to another long-term friend. All the victims were downstairs when the intruders broke in.

Fortunately, the property has CCTV and have been passed on to police for analysis as part of an ongoing investigation.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called at approximately 00:35hrs on Wednesday, 13 May to reports of a robbery at a residential address Barnet.

“Two males gained entry to the property and stole items of jewellery, including watches, before fleeing.

“One male occupant of the property, aged in his 20s, suffered a minor facial injury after being assaulted. He did not require hospital treatment.

“No arrests; enquiries into the circumstances continue.”

The club were made aware of the incident on Wednesday and were liaising with their player to check on his well-being.

Players have been reporting to training this week in blocks of four or five with social distancing restricting them to one per pitch. Alli is understood to have taken his turn earlier this week and is not believed to have trained on Wednesday.

  • Barcelona ready to raid Tottenham with Jose Mourinho willing to sell

Government guidelines designed at allowing elite sport to return after June 1 will enable Spurs to step up their training arrangements next week once the Premier League gets the agreement of the players.

While Alli was understandably shaken by the incident, he is not thought to have sustained any injury to threaten his ability to continue his preparations for the season.

In the past, Alli has been a high-profile figure in the fight against knife crime in his native Milton Keynes.

British No 1 Dan Evans ready to turn to Tim Henman's former coach

Dan Evans ready to turn to Tim Henman’s former coach as British No 1 bids to keep in optimum shape once tennis returns from COVID-19 crisis

  • Daniel Evans is ready to turn to Tim Henman’s former coach, Kieron Vorster
  • The British No 1 wants to team up with the no-nonsense South African to keep fit
  • Vorster’s former clients include Wayne Ferreira and ex-Chelsea keeper Petr Cech
  • Evans, 29, is determined to capitalise on an excellent start to the 2020 season
  • Here’s how to help people impacted by Covid-19

British No 1 Dan Evans is ready to turn to the man who masterminded the fitness of Tim Henman to keep him in optimum shape when tennis resumes.

The 29-year-old Midlander will team up and travel with Kieron Vorster, a no-nonsense South African whose clients have included former top-10 player Wayne Ferreira and former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech.

It is a mark of how determined Evans is to capitalise on an excellent start to the season, prior to its suspension because of the coronavirus crisis.

British No 1 Daniel Evans is ready to turn to Tim Henman’s former coach, Kieron Vorster

The move is particularly interesting in light of Henman’s comments about Evans’ diet earlier this year, when captaining him at the ATP Cup team event.

While praising Evans’s attitude, Henman observed that he ‘could miss a few meals’.

In the past 18 months Evans has reaped the rewards of a more professional approach to the game, and in the five events he has played this year has beaten seven top 20 players in reaching a career-high ranking of 28.

Hiring Vorster, 47, will be no soft option when they get the chance to work together in person once the lockdown is lifted. His near four-year spell with Henman coincided with the best results of the ex-world No 4’s career.

Vorster, who masterminded the fitness of Tim Henman (left), is wanted by Evans (right) now

Most recently, Vorster has been working as a consultant to the athlete programme at Baylor University in Texas, while also running his own fitness business in Wimbledon.

Evans has spent the lockdown at his base in Cheltenham, his last tournament having been a run to the semi-finals of the Dubai Duty Free Championships in February.

With a return of the international tour perhaps, minimally, three or four months away, it is likely that his next tournament will in the UK.

The LTA is planning to stage some events at home for British players over the summer.

2020 NFL Offensive Player of the Year odds: Is it worth betting on Joe Burrow?

The Cincinnati Bengals have only had one player win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award in their long history. Second-round pick Carl Pickens achieved the feat back in 1992, but none of this franchise’s numerous top-five picks have been able to follow up on that win. We have seen Ki-Jana Carter, Akili Smith, Peter Warrick, Carson Palmer and even A.J. Green come up short, but the oddsmakers are bullish on the chances of this year’s No. 1 overall pick, Joe Burrow. Burrow is a sizable favorite to be named OROY, but is it worth betting on Burrow at these odds?

Odds to win 2020 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year

(Odds via

All Other Rookies at +5000 or More

Burrow is coming off the most impressive season for a quarterback in college football history. There wasn’t much expected from Burrow after a lackluster junior campaign, but Joe Brady’s offensive scheme led to LSU’s offense smashing school records in 2019. Edwards-Helaire, Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase gave Burrow three incredible weapons to use in the Tigers’ offensive scheme, and he made the most of them in leading the Bayou Bengals to the national championship.

It’s wise to not buy into the Burrow hype though. He was seen as a mid-round pick at the end of the 2018 college football season, and Brady deserves a lot of the credit for his overhaul of LSU’s offense. Zac Taylor might be the most overmatched head coach in the NFL, and Cincinnati doesn’t have a lot of talent on the roster.

The odds on Edwards-Helaire to win Offensive Rookie of the Year have dropped considerably over the last week. Burrow’s college teammate was 10-1 to be named OROY when these odds were first released shortly after the conclusion of the 2020 NFL Draft, but bettors have jumped on the chance to bet on Edwards-Helaire. He has the potential to become Kansas City’s No. 1 running back in Week 1, and the rookie could post incredible numbers in the Chiefs’ offense. Edwards-Helaire showcased plenty of skill as a receiver out of the backfield during his time in Baton Rouge, and that should lead to plenty of chances for him to catch passes in space from Patrick Mahomes.

Indianapolis looked to address its running back issues by taking Taylor in the second-round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and he will be in one of the better situations for a rookie. His offensive line is one of the best in the league, and he will have an experienced quarterback at the helm in Philip Rivers. However, there are three big reasons to shy away from Taylor at this price. First, he has a fumbling problem, and that typically doesn’t go away in the NFL. Additionally, he was a high usage running back at Wisconsin with 926 carries in three years, and his running style makes injury concerns a real worry. Lastly, he wasn’t a great pass-catcher out of the backfield, so he will need time to adapt to that at the next level.

Tagovailoa is the most intriguing rookie in this class. He was the frontrunner to win the Heisman Trophy in 2018 and 2019 heading into the final month of the regular season, and he is the best quarterback Nick Saban has had by leaps and bounds. Tagovailoa showed a lot of promise during his time in Tuscaloosa, but two major injuries have led to many doubting whether he can stay healthy at the next level. Some are speculating that he may sit out the whole 2020 season, but if he’s cleared to play, the Dolphins may as well see what they have with Tagovailoa. This is a decent price to take a flier on the former Alabama signal caller.

There has been significant movement on Akers’ betting odds to win Offensive Rookie of the Year. Akers was 25-1 last week, but sharp bettors pounced on that line as he figures to be the feature back with the Rams. You can make a strong case that Akers was the most impressive running back in college football in 2018 and 2019 given the porous offensive line he was running behind, and he always ranked among the nation’s leaders in yards after contact. The value is largely out of Akers at this price though.

If you’re looking for a flier, Moss is a decent bet at 33-1 to win OROY. Moss was a star at Utah, and he will immediately challenge Devin Singletary as Buffalo’s top running back. Sean McDermott loves to run the ball, so Moss will see his fair share of action in 2020.

Lionel Messi has coronavirus test at Barcelona training ahead of La Liga return

La Liga’s stars including Barcelona’s Lionel Messi reported to their training grounds on Wednesday morning to be tested for coronavirus as the Spanish league looks to ramp up plans to restart the season.

The government in Spain has eased some lockdown restrictions this week, with La Liga organisers now targeting a June restart date to finish the season.

Players from the top two divisions in the country will train individually initially after coming to an agreement with Spain’s sports and health authorities that guaranteed the safety of players and staff.

That involves regular testing, starting on Wednesday, with Barcelona’s players arriving in staggered time slots at the club’s Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training facility.

The first four players to arrive were Sergi Roberto, Ivan Rakitic, Clement Lenglet and Marc-Andre ter Stegen to undergo a PCR test.

They stayed for only around 20 minutes, with their weight and BMI measured, as well as a cardiogram test, in addition to being swabbed for Covid-19.

No sooner had they left than the next batch of players arrived, including six-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi, with very few players wearing masks in their cars – though Arturo Vidal did opt for a dust mask.

One notable absentee was Ousmane Dembele, who was not registered to play in the second half of the season after picking up a serious hamstring injury, and he will not train with the squad or be tested right now.

Real Madrid’s squad also reported to their Valdebebas training ground on Wednesday to undergo testing, with Eden Hazard present despite picking up an injury before the season was suspended.

La Liga predict around 2,000 tests will be carried out across the 42 professional clubs who are returning to action and estimate that around 30 asymptomatic positive results will be returned, slightly less than 2%.

Those players will remain anonymous if they so wish and be put into isolation, with the rest of the squad allowed to train individually, then in small groups, before full contact training returns later this month.

Sky Sports hold back payment to the ECB for broadcasting the Hundred

Sky Sports hold back next payment in £36m-a-year Hundred rights deal to the ECB after competition launch was pushed back to 2021 due to coronavirus

  • The ECB will be the first to lose television income as a result of the lockdown
  • Sky have already paid the first instalment of their fee and will not seek a rebate
  • Cancelling the Hundred has saved the ECB £25.2m in operating costs this year
  • Here’s how to help people impacted by Covid-19

Sky Sports have told the ECB they are withholding the next payment in their £36million-a-year rights deal to broadcast the Hundred after the competition’s launch was postponed until 2021.

In a development which will spread fear among sports administrators, the ECB will become the first governing body or league in the country to lose domestic television income as a result of the lockdown.

Sky’s decision is the direct result of the cancellation of this year’s Hundred and follows amicable discussions with the ECB, with both parties committed to maintaining their long-term partnership.

Sky Sports have told the ECB they are holding back their payment to broadcast the Hundred

Sky have already paid the first instalment of their rights fee and have told the ECB they will not seek a rebate but they have opted to defer the next payment — due later this summer — until next year.

The deferral will cause anxiety in other sports: the Premier League, the Football League and English rugby all have lucrative contracts with Sky which they are currently unable to deliver.

Until now the FA had been the only English governing body to lose a broadcast fee due to the shutdown, with Sportsmail revealing last month that overseas rights fees relating to the FA Cup had been withheld.

The news comes as a direct result of the competition launch being postponed until 2021

The ECB should be able to cope without Sky’s next payment in the short term because cancelling the Hundred has saved £25.2m in operating costs this year. But it will put the governing body under more financial pressure and raise major concerns for the counties reliant on the central handouts.

The 18 counties have already been given £650,000 of the £1.3m media rights fee they are due for the Hundred, but many fear going bust if they do not receive the rest.

In another development, Sportsmail has learned that the ECB will not hold another draft for next year’s Hundred and that the contracts awarded last year will be honoured if the players want to fulfil them.

The ECB will not be holding another draft and the contracts already awarded will be honoured

Sky have committed to paying the second instalment of the Hundred money next year and may seek an extension to their five-year contract as recompense for losing matches this summer.

Meanwhile, the ECB confirmed that Ian Watmore will replace Colin Graves as ECB chairman after the former FA chief executive survived a review into his appointment triggered by Sportsmail‘s revelations about his conduct while he was a director of the Football League.

This newspaper also revealed in March that Graves was considering leaving before his planned departure date of December, and the ECB confirmed yesterday he will stand down in August. Graves is now expected to stand to become chair of the ICC when Shashank Manohar departs this summer.

The ECB also confirmed that Ian Watmore will replace Colin Graves as chairman of the body

Boxing news: Anthony Joshua calls out Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder quit hint, Canelo claim

Boxing news – Anthony Joshua calls out Tyson Fury

Unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has called out Tyson Fury, challenging his WBC counterpart to prove he’s the best heavyweight on the planet by defeating him.

“Yes, come fight me,” the Olympic gold medallist told Sky Sports when asked if he had a message for Fury. “If you really want to say you’re No 1, come fight me. Let’s get it on.

“I’ve got the rest of the belts so it only makes sense.

“I’m the unified heavyweight champion of the world, he’s the WBC champion. What it will prove, me and him fighting?

“There will be one dominant figure in the heavyweight division that will have all of the belts and become undisputed.

“Logically to prove yourself as No 1, I have to fight Tyson Fury. He has to fight Anthony Joshua.”

Boxing news – Deontay Wilder drops retirement hint

If you really want to say you’re No 1, come fight me. Let’s get it on.

Anthony Joshua’s message to Tyson Fury

Former WBC heavyweight king Deontay Wilder has hinted he’ll retire from boxing if he loses his trilogy fight with Fury.

He said: “I’m taking everything in that happened, everything that happened towards me. I’m cutting my grass, I’m getting rid of a lot of snakes in the grass.

“This time has allowed me to look back, dig in the weed and see what was really going on.

“You can have a lot of great people around you, but certain jealousy of people you can’t control.

“Everybody wants certain things, everybody wants what you have but they don’t want to work as hard as you, to sacrifice as much as you.

“People get envious of the things they can’t have, I had to weed out, change up certain things.”

Boxing news – Canelo Alvarez coach predicts Gennady Golovkin trilogy fight

Canelo Alvarez’s trainer Eddy Reynoso is confident the unified middleweight champion will settle his rivalry with Gennady Golovkin via an emphatic stoppage victory in their trilogy fight later this year.

“If that fight comes to fruition – Canelo with Golovkin – Canelo will undoubtedly win by knockout,” he told ESPN.

“We are going to look for the fight like we did in the [rematch], from the very beginning, to try to put him on the back foot, but this time things are going to be very different.

“This time we are going to knock him out, we are promising that will happen to all of the people who believe in us.

Wright reveals Keane refused to meet after he arrived TWO MINUTES late

‘He hung up the phone and I never saw him until the evening’: Ian Wright reveals Roy Keane refused to meet him for lunch after he turned up just TWO MINUTES late… and then used the incident to explain Manchester United’s success!

  • Ian Wright and Roy Keane were working as pundits for ITV at the 2018 World Cup
  • The pair agreed to meet for lunch one day but Wright arrived two minutes late
  • The Arsenal legend revealed that Keane refused to meet and hung up on him
  • Ex-Manchester United skipper later used the incident to explain club’s success
  • Wright spoke about his admiration for Keane and the way he played the game

Ian Wright has revealed how Roy Keane taught him a lesson on timekeeping after he arrived just two minutes late for lunch.

The pair were working as pundits for ITV at the 2018 World Cup in Russia when the former Arsenal striker asked if Keane wanted to meet up.

After agreeing to go for lunch together, Wright was surprised to find Keane had left when he turned up just moments after they were supposed to meet.

Ian Wright talks with Gary Lineker (L) and Alan Shearer (R) on the Match of the Day podcast

Speaking about his admiration for Keane, who won 12 major trophies with United across 12 years, Wright told BBC’s Match of the Day: Top 10 podcast: ‘For me, he was the best captain in the Premier League.

‘What he ushered in with the Class of ’92, with the great players around him, the consistency of his performances without compromising exactly what he was about in respect of the way he sees the game and his principles and his morals.

‘Honestly, I’ve got so much admiration for Roy Keane. I have to say, we were at the World Cup together [as pundits] and I was thinking, “oh my gosh, we’re really cool mates, it’s fine”.

‘And I remember there was this one time I asked Roy if he wanted to go to lunch, because we had breakfast then we’d go for lunch.

‘He said, “okay, Wrighty. See you at 1:15”. I said, “no problem, I’ve just got to go and do some stuff”. So I had to go and do that, I got there at 1:17, I was waiting in the lobby, I phoned and said, “Roy, okay, I’m here”. And he said, “Wrighty, 1:15 is 1:15, I’m not coming”.

‘I laughed because I thought he was only messing about but he said, “Wrighty, I’m not coming”. And he hung up the phone. And I never saw him until the evening.’

Wright also revealed that when he did see Keane again, the Irishman took the opportunity to explain why his attitude had made United so successful – often at the expense of Arsenal.

Keane lifts the Premier League trophy with Sir Alex Ferguson back in August, 2003

‘And as soon as I saw him he done one of those cheeky smiles he’s got and he said, “this is why Man United was so successful, we done what had to be done on time, we done what we needed to do”,’ Wright added.

‘And that’s what made me think with Roy Keane is that to be under him, under his stewardship as a captain, he would take nothing in respect of failure.

‘What I like about Roy Keane and anybody that knows him or spends any time with him, obviously he doesn’t suffer any fools, but I’ve never seen anybody who loves football and speaks about football as much as he does.

‘He’ll tell you about a player in League Two, a left-back somewhere, he loves it. The fact is, when he’s off-camera he’s just a very serious man, he’s a serious bloke, he doesn’t deal with foolishness.

‘I cannot stop laughing when I’m in his presence, the way he shuts people down and shuts things off, it just makes me laugh all the time, I just love being around him.’
