Gary Lineker has sent Roger Federer a classy message labelling him the greatest of all time, after the tennis legend announced that he would retire from the sport after competing at the Laver Cup. The 41-year-old posted a video to his Instagram on Thursday stating that he will end his professional playing career following the event next week in London.
Lineker was one of several sporting icons to react to the news, as the former England striker dubbed Federer the greatest tennis player of all time. “It’s been one of the great pleasures in life to watch you play,” Lineker tweeted. “You’ve brought so much joy to so many. Good luck with whatever comes next.” Lineker added a goat emoji at the end of his tweet, referring to Federer as the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT).
